No, because there is some cost involved. Because the ETN issue has the obligation to repay the performance of the underlying asset, usually the Issuer hedges his position buying the underlying asset directly or through swap or other derivatives. In hedging his position incur in cost and also holding the asset itself generate cost that the issuer usually cover charing a management fee to the ETN. Therefore the ETN price always discounts this fee and can’t replicate 100% of the underlyinging performance. Similar to the ETF each ETN has a total Expense ratio that represents the cost the investor incur
ETN are traded on regulated exchanges and are subject to the liquidity rules established by the exchange. Every issue appoint one or more market maker to provide bid and ask prices and guarantee liquidity.
